White Cedar Reclaimed After the 2017 Earthquake

This bowl was turned from white cedar recovered from a tree that fell during the September 2017 earthquake in central Mexico.

After the tree was salvaged, the wood was allowed to dry naturally for several years before entering the workshop. Time revealed its character gradually: subtle movement in the grain, natural fissures, and irregularities that could only emerge through age and exposure.

Rather than remove these marks, they were preserved as part of the piece. The cracks, variations, and textures remain as traces of the tree's history and of the forces that shaped it.

Turned by hand from a single block of cedar, the bowl celebrates the material not as a perfect surface, but as a record of growth, weather, and transformation.

No other piece can be replicated from the same section of wood.
