Turned from reclaimed Ash and using the traditional Japanese technique of Yakisugi in only some parts of the bowl, it explores the relationship between fire, material, natural defects and form.
The controlled charring process deepens the character of the wood, revealing a rich surface of black tones and warm brown undertones that shift subtly with the light. Rather than conceal the nature of the cedar, the finish highlights its texture and individuality.
The piece is intended as a quiet presence within a room. It functions as a utilitary/art object that brings warmth, contrast, and material richness to a shelf, desk, or table.
Each piece is shaped and finished by hand, preserving the unique qualities of the wood from which it was made.
