Pine from an old staircase, painted over, varnished, walked on for decades. When it came to the lathe, the layers came off and what was underneath had been waiting. Grain that had spent years compressed under foot traffic and hidden under paint, now turned thin enough that light passes through it differently at every angle.
At 3 centimeters tall and 28 centimeters wide, the walls are thin enough to feel the grain with your fingers on both sides simultaneously. Pine is honest wood, it does not pretend to be anything other than what it is. This piece carries the specific history of one stair in one building, turned once, and not repeated.
Finished by hand with Osmo oil and natural beeswax. Signed by the maker. Its color will deepen with time and use, in ten years it will look better than it does today.
Care: wipe clean with a damp cloth. Not dishwasher safe. Refresh with beeswax once or twice a year to maintain depth and luster.
